Washington’s NFL team just benefitted from a Supreme Court decision permitting disparaging trademarks

The Supreme Court of the United States issued a ruling on Monday that should benefit the Washington NFL team’s bid to regain trademark protection for the term “Redskins.” In Matal v. Tam, the Cheap Jerseys Ireland Court ruled that the disparagement clause of the Lanham Act violates the Free Speech Clause of the First Amendment, and is thus unconstitutional. All eight Justices joined in part of the decision, with four offering a concurring opinion on part of it. All agreed the disparagement clause of the Lanham Act was a problem.

Here’s what that looks like in practice. When Bogaerts is ahead in the count, he hits .309 with a .364 slugging percentage. When he’s behind in the count, he hits .303 with a .487 slugging percentage. When you watch Bogaerts hit, there are times when he’s ahead in the count 2-0 or 3-1 and you’re thinking, “All right, time to crush one,” and he gets a hittable pitch and either takes it (ARG!) or slaps it into the outfield for a single. Singles are great, but for strong hitters in hitters’ counts who get a hittable pitch, singles are a missed opportunity.

But there’s another side to that coin: When you don’t change your approach, you get better at executing it. Think of a pitcher who only throws one pitch. He’s going to be incredibly good at that one pitch, right? That’s Bogaerts. He’s what you get if you turned Mark Trumbo inside Cheap Jerseys NBA China out.
