Before Marshall can join the 1,000-catch club, he’ll surpass Randy Moss, who has 982 career catches.

Last year, Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett arrived in Indianapolis just before the start of the season, and he performed very well, given the lack of preparation time and opportunities. This year, Brissett has the benefit of a full opportunity to prepare for the season, and to learn the team’s new offense.

So far, he likes it. And he really likes one aspect of it.

“The playcalling,” Brissett said, via Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star. “It’s no knock on anybody. But that’s what makes offenses different. We’re all running the same plays to get in the end zone. It’s just how you call them and when you call them.”

With Justify out to win the Triple Crown in the Belmont, reader Bill Fleming shares his cautionary poem, as inspired by the kicker to Casey at the Bat:

In the latest Take a Knee drama, Long Island Rep. Peter King Cheap Authentic NHL Jerseys now wants to know if Jets owner Chris Johnson would pay the fines for players if they gave Nazi salutes during the National Anthem.

Encouraging a movement premised on lies vs. police, the tweet continued. Would he support all player protests? Would he pay fines of players giving Nazi salutes or spew [cq] racism? It’s time to say goodbye to Jets!

The 1,000-catch club is relatively new: Jerry Rice became the first NFL player with 1,000 career catches in 1996, and every other player to reach 1,000 career catches has done so in 2000 or after. Overall there are 14 players with 1,000 career catches, and Marshall will try to be the 15th.

After Marshall, it may be a few years before we have another receiver join the 1,000-catch club. Antonio Gates is close, with 927 career catches, but given that he’s currently without a team it seems unlikely that he has 73 more catches left in him. After Gates, Antonio Brown is next among active players, with 733 career catches.

Sporting events have long been an attractive venue for protests, simply because they draw large crowds. But professional sports, especially football, have become cultural and political flash points in the post-9/11 era.

NFL Draft QB comparisons: Best- and worst-case scenarios for top passers

Evaluating and drafting quarterbacks is the hardest job NFL decision-makers have, as there are many factors to consider as reasons why a QB might succeed or fail. NFL teams do a ton of research on the top passers, including film study, on-field workouts, athletic testing, whiteboard quizzing and thorough character and background checks.

But at the end of the day, NFL teams are trying to determine the upside and downside of each passer in an effort to make the best guess at who will be successful. One way to do that is through pro player comparisons.

It might take Mayfield multiple years to feel comfortable (like it did for Keenum), but it’s hard to imagine him not succeeding in the NFL.

The most pro-ready QB in this class from a mechanics, footwork and mental-processing standpoint, Rosen can step into an NFL offense tomorrow and become an adequate starter.

Rosen needs to continue to improve his downfield and perimeter ball placement, but the real question teams have is whether he can adapt to the NFL lifestyle. For some, that’s a non-issue. As for the others, Rosen will look to prove them wrong and become a 10-year starter like Ryan.

Kansas City gets a soft middle, but the schedule revs up again late with the Rams in Mexico City and the Raiders games bookending matchups with the Ravens, Chargers and Seahawks (in Seattle). The Chiefs face a daunting task as they go for their fourth consecutive playoff trip.

The Falcons begin by having to endure the Eagles celebrating their Super Bowl 52 victory in the Week 1 NFL season opener. Of the three 2017 playoff teams from the NFC South, Atlanta draws a slate worse than that of Carolina and New Orleans. The Panthers and Saint also happen to be the Falcons’ first two home opponents, in Weeks 2 and 3.

That means the Falcons will have three division road games in their final six games, including Thanksgiving against the Saints. Also in the mix for Atlanta is at Pittsburgh in October and at Green Bay in December. The Falcons truly will need to rise up in order to avoid a delayed playoff drop-off.

The NFC North collectively has it rough, but the Vikings’ schedule stands out as the worst as they reload with Kirk Cousins at quarterback. The 49ers at home and the Packers on the road form a tricky Week 1-2 punch, but it doesn’t even compare to visiting the Rams on a Thursday night in Week 4 before traveling to Philadelphia in Week 5.

Minnesota draws New Orleans at home in prime time in Week 8, and Cheap Authentic NHL Jerseys the Vikings also have to play at the Patriots and Seahawks back-to-back to begin December. The Vikings are still strong NFC North Cheap Blank Hockey Jerseys favorites, but little will come easy in their quest to repeat as division champs.
